Lead defence counsel Tan Sri Muhammad Shafee Abdullah today explained that the application to adjourn the proceedings for this week is made on two grounds; firstly, to allow the team to seek documents from the US courts, which he said is very important to the case as they may affect the cross-examination of some of the witnesses in this trial.
However, Hazem had previously testified that the late Datuk Azlin Alias and Low told him that the investment fund was set up to raise money for the ex-prime minister and his political party Umno.
However, Shafee questioned Hazem's claim and accused him of being part of the whole dubious business affairs.

Former deputy chief secretary to the Cabinet Tan Sri Mazidah Abdul Majid told the court this when she was being cross-examined by Datuk Seri Najib Razak's defence lawyer Tan Sri Shafee Abdullah, in response to questions about cabinet ministers' code of conduct, and how conflict of interests are dealt with when it comes to matters raised in cabinet meetings.

Former 1MDB chief executive officer Mohd Hazem Abdul Rahman said this in the 1MDB-Tanore trial when questioned by defence lawyer Wan Aizuddin Wan Mohamad about the instructions Jho Low had given to Hazem via an email correspondence. Hazem said when such instructions were made, they would officially be referred to as instructions from the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) instead of Jho Low himself.
